Christian Methodist Episcopal Church Fulfills NAACP Centennial Gift

The NAACP received a $50,000 donation to the Department of Religious Affairs today from the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.  The gift completed their $100,000 pledge to help the NAACP celebrate its 100th Anniversary.

“The NAACP is honored to receive this gift from the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.  They have been trusted advisors and great supporters for many years and the NAACP is delighted to continue our relationship beyond our centennial year,” stated Benjamin Todd Jealous, NAACP President and CEO.

“The Christian Methodist Episcopal Church is proud to stand with the NAACP as they celebrate 100 years,” stated Bishop Graves. “We at the CME church believe that churches should step up to the plate and lead the way and fight for organizations like the NAACP.  We hope to do more, and we need the NAACP as bad as we need the church,” concluded Graves.

The Christian Methodist Episcopal Church has been a supporter of the NAACP for over 20 years and has raised over $500,000 for the organization.

“The faith based community has always been a strong supporter of the NAACP, and no other group illustrates that support better than the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church,” stated Julian Bond, Chair of the NAACP Board of Directors. “The entire NAACP family is honored at their generosity during our centennial year,” added Bond.

“The NAACP Board of Directors is very appreciative of our partnership with the CME Church under the leadership of Bishop Graves. We look forward to working with him and the CME Church for years to come,” added Roslyn M. Brock, Vice Chair of the NAACP Board of Directors.

“The faith community is a sleeping giant and we need more people like Bishop Graves to keep the NAACP and the faith community energized,” added Reverend Julius C. Hope, Director of the NAACP Department of Religious Affairs.
